NAWC HEALTH AND SCIENCE CENTER

NAWC MODEL: An enhanced mixed use Medical Campus : NAWC Food Park to offer a preventive medicine
approach

The NAWC Development offers the traditional Health Sciences campus with an added feature of the Food Park which shall provide a key focus on Food and Nutrition across all ages. The Diet and Nutrition shall be co-ordinated with the Health Sciences Center to offer a deep awareness and training to the  community, the residents and the Park visitors in the areas of Food and Nutrition. This is an approach that will complement existing preventive medicine specialists in the area and the preventive medicine services offered by the local health care players in the region.

According to the regional health care organizations, the need for  preventive medicine specialists was never greater than now.  There is a large and increasing burden of important chronic diseases, particularly obesity and diabetes, in the United States.  Healthcare costs continue to rise steeply, while measures of population health often lag.  As a result, policy-makers are focusing on the need for effective approaches to keep individuals and populations healthy, to improve the quality of medical care, and to improve cost-effectiveness.  The Affordable Care Act has brought increased attention and funding to prevention.  Many organizations are actively focusing on prevention of diseases by focusing on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This entails a continued emphacis on Healthy Food and Nutrition.

"NAWC has taken that focus to create a planned Food and Nutrition Zone which shall deliver health based programs in co-ordination with local health care players in the region. By delivering this added feature NAWC shall offer a distinctive preventive medicine model in line with major health care players in
the nation."

This building shall also house the various Centers of Excellence that shall provide health care services for its park residents and on limited basis be a need filler for the local community.

DESTINATION HOSPITAL CAMPUS; BRINGING MIXED-USE TO TRADITIONAL FACILITIES
Mixed use developments adopting new strategies by bringing the mixed use components seen in traditional urban setting now to hospital or health care based developments integrating the medical or health care facilities to the rest of the urban components- thus focusing on community integration and creating a long-lasting community fabric.

“Today a new mixed us model is integrating the hospital campus within a community”. As the anchor of a mixed use development, a hospital campus helps build a bridge between health care and the surrounding community."
